Nostalgia

I have been thinking a lot about my "childhood." (Makes me feel old, being able to say that.) For some reason I didn't remember much about it at all. Ever since I had Sam, or around that time, it seemed like I couldn't remember being a kid anymore. I assume I have a bad memory. But lately, it has ALL been coming back. People, Places, Events, and especially TOYS! Jessie and I have been talking about the toys we played with when we were kids. And I know a lot of you ladies are around the same age, so maybe you played with some of the same ones. Here are some of my favorites:

First and foremost, Barbies. Although we don't allow Sam to play with them now, because of what I feel like they stand for now, back when I was little, I played with them.  I was spoiled. I had the house, the jeep, the Volkswagon!, which I thought was the coolest because it had a key to unlock the trunk! And a ton of Barbies and clothes for them. I also read the book, watched the movies, and had the match games. My brother and I used to play Barbie together, but he would do silly things with Ken and of course we would argue.

My Barbies had the craziest clothes! (These aren't mine, but I did have some like it.)

My house is the one in black and white...and the other one is a 2012 model. :)
Wow...I didn"t know how out of style my old toys look.

Found these...

Wow...What a difference.

And, my all time favorite, that I was obsessed with for years is 101 Dalmatians! My room was decorated with Dalmatians and I played with the toys all the time...

I found this and couldn't believe I remember these!
I had this picture on my wall.
I was so excited when this movie came out. I remember my Mom bought it from the Disney store for me on my birthday!

Next in line is a bunch of random toys...

Horses. Maybe they weren't popular, but I had a ton of horses and horse playsets. I LOVED horses. Now I can't find anything like this.

DOODLE BEAR!!! Nuf Said!
Light Bright...My brother had one and we could play on it for hours.

Little Pet Shops OMG I had these two little cuties!
And This Car
Remember when a lot of the LPS were made of rubbery materials and came in little bags like trading cards?

The large My Little Ponies! I would always get rid of mine and then decide I wanted it back, so I would ask for another one.

Polly Pocket
I Loved having tiny toys!

Pound Puppies
Sky Dancers-I had the movie with this image on the cover. :)
I accidentally hit my brother in the face with this one when I let it go. My Mom took all my Sky Dancers away and I don't think I was allowed to play with them again...Must not have been the first incident.

Since I had a brother who was only a year older, I played with some boy toys too...

This is what HotWheels looked like in the 90s! :) My brother had a TON. We would race cars for hours!

Jessie says he used to play with these all the time. My brother had some too.

DIGIMON! AWESOME!

Remember these? We Loved Pokemon!
Were these Kid Meal toys?

This show didn't last long, but it was awesome.

Now on to technology...When computers started becoming more common in people's homes. (It is so funny. A lot of the books I read about homeschooling were written in the 90s when homeschooling became more common, and it is hilarious to read things about how amazing it is that people have computers now and how much information you can find on the Internet. And that was back before Pinterest and free curriculum websites!)

These things were creepy! I know they are still around, but I remember when they came out. :) I had the Dalmatian one of course.

Giga Pets...A friend gave me one in Elementary School. I carried that thing everywhere, with all my hundreds of keychains on my backback. I thought I was the coolest.

This is one of the first games I played on the computer. :)

Hit Clips were awesome! I was so excited when the CD Player shaped one came out.

I had an orange one, but couldn't find an image online.

Nintendo. We still play ours.
Oregon Trail

Sega..I used to Love going to my grandparent's to play Sega. Although, to me Sega was a stone ages system because the Play Station 1 had already come out.

Ba Ha Ha I remember this window coming up, and waiting for everything to load. Now my computer takes about 5 seconds to start!

Before DVDs, where everybody had to replace their entire collection.

I remember how excited everybody was about a Gameboy COLOR!

Here are a few games we like: (Of course we played the classics, and I believe these games are still around, but the pictures made me smile.)

Perfection! We played this game for hours! I bought a small version for Sam and she Loves it!

Guess Who

Pretty Pretty Princess I found this game at a consignment, with all the pieces. I was going to get it for Sam, but I accidentally left it on a table, and when I went back to get it, somebody had taken it. :(

My. Bucket This game is TOTALLY 90s!
 And some shows...

Bill Nye the Science Guy They have some of these at the library, and I like to get them for Sam.
Fresh Prince of Bel Air. We still watch that show sometimes.
FULL HOUSE! We still watch this too. One of Sam's favorite shows. Good, clean humor.
And you gotta know we still watch this!
Reading Rainbow I don't remember much about it, but I do remember watching it in school.

Rugrats. Oh my gosh. Sam will never watch this, but I remember seeing it when I was little. I have the tune stuck in my head right now.

We get these from the library too. :)

Sam has all the episodes on DVD SO educational!

Wishbone. I Loved Wishbone.

Power Rangers...What can I say? I had an older brother.
Foods, anyone?  I only found these:

Remember these?

Dunkaroos
Ouch Bubble Gum was awesome!

Surge, didn't last long, but I Loved it!

Funny
Also, when I was around 9 or 10, closer to the early 2000s, I remember fluffy being the new big thing. There was a story called Dry Ice in the mall around here, and I used to save all my money just to go shop there. (And Claires and the Icing.) I had a fluffy chair, fluffy clocks, fluffy pens...) My whole room was  a big ball of fluff.

And then in highschool I got into the whole goth scene. Now there is Scene, Goth, Emo...All kinds of stuff.

I will have to scan in some pictures of when I was little with all my 90s clothes and toys and whatnot and post them later.

Man, when Samantha gets older, she will remember some of this stuff, like the My Little Ponies or Little Pet Shops, but definitely not the originals. She will be looking back on the iPod touch and think it is primitive technology. She think about the movie Tangled as a classic. And she will remember singers like Justin Beiber instead of Britney Spears and Nsync. She will think my car is old and totally out of style. She will never talk on a landline phone to her friends. She will never have to fix the "Bunny Ears" on the television. And she will never have to settle an argument with Rock, Paper, Scissors, Bubble Gum, Bubble Gum in a Dish, or Innie Minnie Minnie Mo. She will have her own stuff she remembers. I am interested in seeing what that is.

I had fun with this post. :) Is there anything else you guys remember? I am sure I am forgetting a lot.
