Easter 2012

Easter this year went well. Samantha had an Easter egg hunt with us on Monday. (We didn't get to do the red eggs, because I found out about that after the egg hunt, so we will do it next year. But I also found another neat idea, Easter dinner with the traditional dishes. Each one stands for something different.) So anyway...Monday we took her to the Battle Field and did a hunt on one of the trails. That was a lot of fun. She can actually hunt for eggs this year!

And then on Easter we celebrated with my family. We went to church-very powerful message. Stayed after and talked with some friends, helped with cleanup, then off to my grandparents' house. It was my Mom, her boyfriend, my little brother, big brother, grandparents, Aunt, and then us. :) We did a hunt, with 106 eggs. Some were hidden, some were pretty obvious. We helped them out a bit and it went by pretty quick. After that we ate-hotdogs and hamburgers, chips, baked beans, potato salad, cole slaw, etc. (I made Blondies for dessert.) And then we visited for several more hours.

While we were sitting outside, my Nana saw a caterpillar. She knows Samantha and I have been working hard on our butterfly garden and learning a lot about caterpillars and butterflies, so she pointed it out. We put it in a container and brought it home. Sam and I did a lot of research on it, to find out what it was, what it will become, what it likes and eats, and what kind of living conditions it needs. We found out a lot. It is the larva of a Cloak butterfly. We are excited to see it turn into a butterfly. But since we are already going to see the life cycle in that habitat we got her, I figured we will observe the caterpillar a little and then let it go in our garden on one of the plants that it likes to eat, and observe it in it's actual habitat. We are both very excited about this!
