August PAT

This month's meeting went pretty well. Brennon joined us because my Mom and I were considering working out a way to get him into Parents As Teachers and just having me at the meetings with him. (Since he is in my family, he would not be taking any spots up. There is always room for more kids if the family is already in PAT.) Anyway, after this month's meeting, my Mom and I talked about it and decided it wasn't such a great idea. Samantha was SO jealous. She was mean all morning because she did not want Brennon at HER meeting. (Which, I think it is more than that. I think she feels like he is taking over everything.) Anyway, because Brennon was there, she didn't get that one on one attention and it was WAY rowdier than normal. Usually the meetings are calm and smooth, but Brennon brings out the KID in Samantha. lol. They were jumping and screaming and fighting and laughing...I didn't know how much more I could handle. I figure I can always do the activities I learn with Brennon, even if he isn't in the group. On a better note, Samantha did an activity to prepare her small hand muscles to use scissors. She took an ice tray full of water and food coloring in each section and used a dropper to mix the colors. Then, after that, they made coffee filter butterflies. Here is a link on how to do that. (Except she used the dropper to drop paint on it so that it would spread and mix.)

It was definitely a challenge for her. But she was able to do it. I got a paper on other activities we can do to practice the fine motor muscles. Playdough. Using a clothespin to pick up small objects like pom poms. Squeezing sponges...
