So the first day of the New Year turned out pretty well. We brought it in with a kiss of course. One from Jess. One from Sam. ;) Woke up this morning and Jessie went to go get us some breakfast since I didn't have church this Sunday. When he came back, we watched part of the Storage Wars marathon, one of our favorite shows. Then Samantha woke up, so we went to McKays. I got some awesome home school books. Some that I have been wanting to read for awhile. I am trying to find other things to do, to distract me from cleaning, especially late at night. Plus, it is time for me to get more serious into deciding exactly what we are going to do about her education. I also got a "Mommy Planner" that has enough room for all my doctor appointments, Samantha's activities, AND her lesson plans.
Afterward, we headed to the mall and Jessie took Samantha and Gavin-our friend Josh's son-to the playground there. Then Josh and I went out to get stuff for Jessie's 21st birthday party! Which is tomorrow! I am extremely excited because he has NEVER had a birthday party before! :) Then we all went to dinner at Red Robin. Now we are home. I guess we didn't do anything too special today, but it was a good day. :) Good start to the New Year.
This year holds:
-Jessie's 21st Birthday and My 20th-finally not a teenager anymore.
-Our 3 Year Marriage Anniversary
-Samantha's 4th Birthday-That's a big number! (This year I think we are having her party at her dance studio.)
We are going to star working toward:
-Getting More Serious About Buying A House-Building Our Credit More. Right now Jessie's is almost a 700. I want to get it as high as possible so we can get a better interest rate.
-Making the Final Decision About Samantha's School
Also, small progress update on Samantha. She is getting so big on me. Quickly approaching 3-1/2! She is so smart! And she is discovering new things everyday! The other day she was so excited that the clouds were moving! She was jumping up and down and pointing and telling me all about it. She also has discovered that the moon is not always the same. We had a conversation about whether the moon the other night would be considered a crescent moon still or if it was a half moon. And she actually knew the difference! Our friend, Josh, has a telescope and she was so excited to see the moon through it. And in the bath tub the other night she was impressed when she realized if she picks the lufa up out of the water, then water will fall from it. We also experimented with cups in the water, how you pull them out and they make a sound. She notices daylight and night. She sees the difference between hard rain and sprinkling. It is amazing! She gets so excited when she makes a new discovery. One of the books I picked out today was about how to take everyday activities and make them as educational as possible. I want to take complete advantage of it while I can. We are still going to the library every week and she has developed an avid interest in reading. She gets excited to check out new books and learn new words. She is always asking the meaning of things. And when we go now, she likes to pick out a topic and look for a book on it. Today at McKays, she was looking for a book about fish. Everytime she would pick a book off the shelf, she would say, "That book is about cats. I want one about fish." Or "I am looking for a book about fish-not space." We finally settled for a Level One reader about the Rainbow Fish. Her passion for learning is so strong, and I hope to keep it that way!
Other than that, her language is getting stronger. She knows uncommon words such as "stylus." Thanks to her Leap Pad. We try to use bigger words around her so that she is used to hearing them, and so that she will use them in her vocabulary. She expresses herself quite well. She doesn't get frustrated trying to find the right words like she used to when she was younger. If she does forget a word, she will say, "Hey, Momma, what is that word that I mean...the one where..." And so on...She tells us what she wants when she wants it. And she knows how to be patient. Sometimes she will say, "I am being patient..." But if I take too long, she will say, "Umm...I think I am running out of patient." lol. She, for the most part, always uses her manners, and she makes sure that we are proud of her for it.
Her social skills are developing. She is still shy, and we have learned to help her deal with that by not forcing her to jump into things and giving her time to check it out. I realize she is not like everybody else and she is cautious-which is a good thing. When she is around her friends, she has a lot of fun, and she actually plays with them now. She has been doing that for awhile, but now they actually play games and have conversations. It is so sweet.
She also starts dance again on Tuesday, and they will be getting ready for their Spring recital, which is their BIG recital! Her routine will be twice as long, and they will have twice as long to work on it. We order costumes this month. And then closer to time she will start having rehearsals and we will be learning proper etiquette, like bring her roses and such. Then, in August, she starts her jazz/ballet return class and she will be learning more advanced stuff. If she shows interest, she will also be starting the musical theatre class, which is voice and acting together. As of right now, she really wants to do it, but she will not be old enough until she is 4, so we will see what she wants then.
Well, since my camera is not doing so well, I will make sure to post some pictures soon, but I do not have any right now.
